I swallow your heart and it crawls right out of my mouth

Man oh man, each episode is even more fun than the last!!!! I mean, I hate Maryanne, but still just enjoy everything full stop pretty much. I even liked Bill in this episode, he was super cool! Actually if Eric had been in more than the first scene of this one I think it would have been too MUCH for me, I was going so crazy with delight over the rest of it!! It's nice watching it with someone like Maegan too because she's super obsessed and does things like press "restart episode from beginning" without even asking the second it ends for the first time and talks about how Alan Ball makes the coolest kinds of stories because you can just have fun watching them and feel silly in a good way but if you're in the mood you can also take them seriously and be moved. That is just so nice, I appreciate that so much, I guess because for once I like the feeling of being in control of my viewing experience!

This episode was so beautiful, I picked out my favorite caps (I totally skipped the Eric/Sookie makeouts because IDEK WHY, but such was my dedication to only picking out the caps for beauty's sake - Eric's nose got kind of squashed during the kissing and it looked a little weird as still images.  OH GOD I REALLY SHIP THEM GUYS, IT'S KIND OF NUTTY):

(Oh and I just got a new computer (glorious glorious new macbook pro) so I hope the coloring looks okay, I am not used to this level of brightness. Let me know if something looks really off)

Can I just say the scene with Jason and Andy being God and Sam faux-sacrificing himself is probably one of the most surprising, hilarious, and creative things I've seen on TV? I love that scene, I love Jason and Andy and Sam working together. GAWD.

I have this poem that I would probably say is my favorite, if asked.  It would at least be one by its author, Richard Siken, I think.  Anyway this one, "Snow and Dirty Rain," is just, like, what even IS this, it's so good and complex, you know?  And my favorite line has always been one that's kind of mean and about love but a kind reached through lots of conflict and semi-dormant aggressive tendencies, so I've never been able to do much with it outside of appreciate it for simply being a great line. BUT NOW I CAN GIVE IT TO ERICCCCCCCCC (actually it could be from Sookie's perspective as well).  Praise his light.  But actually this is a huge chunk of an excerpt from it that is so Eric/Sookie to me it hurts:

My dragonfly,
my black-eyed fire, the knives in the kitchen are singing
for blood, but we are the crossroads, my little outlaw,
and this is the map of my heart, the landscape
after cruelty which is, of course, a garden, which is
a tenderness, which is a room, a lover saying Hold me
tight, it's getting cold.
We have not touched the stars,
nor are we forgiven, which brings us back
to the hero's shoulders and the gentleness that comes,
not from the absence of violence, but despite
the abundance of it. The lawn drowned, the sky on fire,
the gold light falling backward through the glass
of every room. I'll give you my heart to make a place
for it to happen, evidence of a love that transcends hunger.
Is that too much to expect? That I would name the stars
for you? That I would take you there? The splash
of my tongue melting you like a sugar cube? We've read
the back of the book, we know what's going to happen.
The fields burned, the land destroyed, the lovers left
broken in the brown dirt. And then's it's gone.
Makes you sad. All your friends are gone. Goodbye
Goodbye. No more tears. I would like to meet you all
in Heaven. But there's a litany of dreams that happens
somewhere in the middle. Moonlight spilling
on the bathroom floor. A page of the book where we
transcend the story of our lives, past the taco stands
and record stores. Moonlight making crosses
on your body, and me putting my mouth on every one.
We have been very brave, we have wanted to know
the worst, wanted the curtain to be lifted from our eyes.
This dream going on with all of us in it. Penciling in
the bighearted slob. Penciling in his outstrechted arms.
Our father who art in Heaven. Our father who art buried
in the yard.
Someone is digging your grave right now.
Someone is drawing a bath to wash you clean, he said,
so think of the wind, so happy, so warm. It's a fairy tale,
the story underneath the story, sliding down the polished
halls, lightning here and gone. We make these
ridiculous idols so we can get to what's behind them,
but what happens after we get up the ladder?
Do we simply stare at what's horrible and forgive it?
Here is the river, and here is the box, and here are
the monsters we put in the box to test our strength
against. Here is the cake, and here is the fork, and here's
the desire to put it inside us, and then the question
behind every question: What happens next?
The way you slam your body into mine reminds me
I'm alive, but monsters are always hungry, darling,
and they're only a few steps behind you, finding
the flaw, the poor weld, the place where we weren't
stitched up quite right, the place they could almost
slip right into through if the skin wasn't trying to
keep them out, to keep them here, on the other side
of the theater where the curtain keeps rising.
I crawled out the window and ran into the woods.
I had to make up all the words myself. The way
they taste, the way they sound in the air. I passed
through the narrow gate, stumbled in, stumbled
around for a while, and stumbled back out. I made
this place for you. A place for you to love me.
If this isn't a kingdom then I don't know what is.
So how would you catalog it? Dawn in the fields?
Snow and dirty rain? Light brought in in buckets?
I was trying to describe the kingdom, but the letters
kept smudging as I wrote them: the hunter's heart,
the hunter's mouth, the trees and the trees and the
space between the trees, swimming in gold. The words
frozen. The creatures frozen. The plum sauce
leaking out of the bag. Explaining will get us nowhere.
I was away, I don't know where, lying on the floor,
pretending I was dead. I wanted to hurt you
but the victory is that I could not stomach it. We have
swallowed him up,
they said. It's beautiful. It really is.
I had a dream about you. We were in the gold room
where everyone finally gets what they want.
You said Tell me about your books, your visions made
of flesh and light
and I said This is the Moon. This is
the Sun. Let me name the stars for you. Let me take you
there. The splash of my tongue melting you like a sugar
cube...
We were in the gold room where everyone
finally gets what they want, so I said What do you
want, sweetheart?
and you said Kiss me. Here I am
leaving you clues. I am singing now while Rome
burns. We are all just trying to be holy. My applejack,
my silent night, just mash your lips against me.
We are all going forward. None of us are going back.
full text.

I WANTED TO HURT YOU BUT THE VICTORY WAS THAT I COULD NOT STOMACH IT.

I love that line AAAAAAAAAAAAH!!! Unfff and guys there's this other line in his poem "Little Beast" that goes sorry about the blood in your mouth. I wish it was mine. alskjdgalksdgjlaksgdj ERIC AND SOOKIE ARE SO AWESOMEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This episode was extra pretty, it seemed! So many wonderful shots, I don't know what they're called, but they're like far away from the action? Like this. I love those.

SNOW AND DIRTY RAIN IS MY FAVORITE POEM AS WELL OMG. So many great lines. But I particularly love these:

I'll give you my heart to make a place
for it to happen, evidence of a love that transcends hunger.

for you? That I would take you there? The splash

I have like eighty favorite sections but that is often the one I pick out! And this one:

I crawled out the window and ran into the woods.
I had to make up all the words myself. The way
they taste, the way they sound in the air. I passed
through the narrow gate, stumbled in, stumbled
around for a while, and stumbled back out. I made
this place for you. A place for you to love me.

ALL OF IT IS GREAT, he is an epic artist. I bought his book and I carry it around with me pretty much all the time; I wish he had more.

THIS NEW MACBOOK HAS DONE YOUR BODY GOOD. AND BY BODY I MEAN SCREENCAPING/COLORING. This. Cap. In the name of all that is holy, it is beautiful. Never stop being (occasionally) dream vulnerable, Eric. NEVER. On another note - I need more Hoyt Fortenberry. An episode without much of him is like a moonless night. Or maybe a starless night. I don't know which.

That poem is profoundly glorious, holy crap.

HOOOOOOYTTTTTT FORTENBERRYYYYYY!! oh my gosh I love him so much, every time he's on screen I practically clutch his heart. What a sweet, sweet man. I just about melted when he called Jessica "Jess" this episode.

I am so jealous of your new macbook pro. I have been coveting them since they were first released.

For some reason this last episode was actually kind of freaky to me for some reason, but THE JASON-AS-GOD SCENE!!! Oh my gosh! It was hilarious, both times I watched it I totally laughed. Especially when Andy stuck the branches behind him. AND HELLO, WAS TERRY FUNNY OR WAS HE FUNNY! It was so strange! I'm so used to him being all awkward and quiet.

I love that you love poems. I'm the type of person who will read them quickly and not really notice all the little nuances and then push it aside for something else. Which is weird, I think, since I love music with interesting/thoughtful lyrics, and poems are essentially songs without music so they have to be like twice as good since they lose the whole music thing...annnnd, I'm done.

Oh my god IT IS SO INCREDIBLE. I too had been coveting, and I'd had my old MB Pro for five years so my dad was like HERE IT IS TIME OKAY. I danced through the entire house when it got here; I still can't get over it. Technology just makes me so flaily, and to have such a bright screen! Light is my favorite thing in the universe and now eight jillion watts of it are contained beneath my screen!

Terry was so funny! I love love Terry, even though this plot is totally whacked and it's not really him I'm still happy we've been getting more of him. BULLSHIT, GOD HAS HORNS.

I totally know what you mean about missing nuances, I tend to pick out one or two details from one the first time I read and then I'll have to keep going over it to really get it. That said, I don't think I really ever "get" poems in the way people do who actually analyze them. I tend to just like to isolate little sections or lines and get meaning out of those.

SMITE ME MOTHERFUCKER

2009-08-26 01:23 pm UTC (link)
I'm surprised at how much I loved this episode, since I hate the MaryAnn plot so much. But all that came out if it in this was fucking fabulous. Don't get me started on Jason/Sam/Andy, because I'll never stop. When did Jason Stackhouse climb up to fight Eric for the number one spot of the TB characters?

I cried when Tara and Sookie cried, which shocked me because this show normally don't strike that cord in me (with the exception being the whole Godric suicide, of course). I just think that whole scene when she came back was very well done and props to the actress.

I'm glad you didn't include the kiss itself, because while I was like omgomgomgbreathebreathebreathe when it was happening, it wasn't exactly attractive in caps. But seriously, my stomach tried to crawl up to throat as it played out because I like honestly for a second believed it was real. Her comforting him, him being so in grief that he needed something and her getting swept up in it because he's there and she was sad as well and she does feel something for him, even if it's only pity and lust right now. It was when he laid her down that I knew it was going to far for it being RL. But if they had stopped at the first kiss, I would definitely question if it was a memory or a dream.

NEXT WEEK LOOKS SO GOOD, HOLY SHIT. SAM/ERIC, OMFG YES.

YES JASON IS SUCH A CLOSE SECOND TO ERIC FOR ME AS WELL!! I even made him my default icon, this is serious business!

I agree, the Tara scene was so well done, I got really emotional.

YES WHILE THAT SCENE WAS HAPPENING I WAS LIKE HYPERVENTILATING AND SAYING OMGOMGOMG OVER AND OVER BECAUSE AAAAAAAH!! I didn't realize it was a dream until the bed part because yeah even though it was really bold it totally could have happened! I read a comment by someone else in another post saying that was totally their lame mary sue fantasy they'd been imagining the whole week anyway, which made me laugh.

ERIC/SAM NEXT WEEK IS GOING TO BE SO EPIC. I want Eric to interact with all characters so this is just RIDICULOUSLY EXCITING, especially since he is wearing a suit!!
