"I thought my heart - it broke."

Every single second of this movie was perfect.

I know it's not playing at many theaters but if it's at one near you, I URGE you to go - it's far and away the best film I've seen this year and absolutely one of my favorites ever - I cannot convey eloquently enough the reverence this film has for the quiet moments and how affecting that is. Abbie Cornish, Ben Whishaw, and Paul Schneider give astonishing performances. Everything is beautiful, in every sense of the word. Stunning, stunning film.

I love watching this trailer and I AM SO SAD THAT I DON'T REALLY THINK I CAN SEE IT, but maybe it'll be online someday soon. I really really like Abbie, so I would want to see it anyway but it's getting such good reviews that it's double on that.

UNF YOUR CAPPING ABILITIES BTW.

alsdkj I just want to watch it again and again, it is SO INCREDIBLE and I really think you'd love it so I hooooooope you get to soon. I have an odd perception of Abbie (given, you know) but literally the SECOND she came on screen I completely forgot it was even her, and now I really don't give a shit about whatever happened because she is way, way too good for me to be interested in her personal life.

Yay! I can't wait to see this. I love Jane Campion, easily one of the most artistically adept directors out there, every single shot in her films is a work of art. And Abbie and Ben are so, so talented.

Your review (of sorts) was simple, short, and sweet; it's the perfect incentive for me to try to see it when I go home for fall break. Is it a good mom movie (as in, should I go see it with my mom)?

I think it's REALLY your kind of movie, so definitely definitely go! And yes, it's a mom movie! I am praaaying it's in MI when I go home for October break because it's something I'd really like to (re)experience with my mom, since this kind of thing is something I think of us as loving together.

I watched this on Monday and I loved it! All the prettiness of it was so amazing, I can't even. Your caps and the coloring do it justice though. I need to see more Jane Campion movies.

And the acting! When Abbie broke down with all the wheezing and chest clutching, it made me tear up. It really felt like grief, you know? Paul Schneider was so fantastic, I love him even more. Ben Whishaw too.

I can't think at the bed scene without thinking of how tragic and heartbreaking they were.

AHHH GOOD I AM SO GLAD SOMEONE ELSE HAS SEEN IT, I'm burstingggggg. I agree with everything you said - that scene when she breaks down is one of the rawest and most wrenching things I've ever seen in a movie - I think the fact that the rest of the movie is so quiet makes that scene even more affecting. And AGLKSDJG Paul Schneider, wtf dude, he killed it. That scene with I HAVE FAILED JOHN KEATS and then his voice breaks when he says he did not know how tightly John had wound himself around his heart? OHMYGODDDD. BASICALLY EVERYTHING WAS AMAZING, but it was all in the details, so that is what I keep remembering.

God, I wish they'd gotten to have a happy ending - what a terribly unfair way to lose someone.

Ohh, this is gorgeous. It feels like I've been waiting for this film forever (it's been at least a year and half of JANE CAMPION BEN WHISHAW JOHN KEATS OH MY SOUL quietly desperate flailing), and I'm overjoyed that people are loving it so much.

I still have to wait a few more weeks to see it (HURRY UP LONDON FILM FESTIVAL), but this will help tide me over 'til then. Thank you!

Aaaaah oh gosh! I only just found out about it over the summer, I can't imagine waiting a year and a half (or I can, since I always seem to be whiling away the time waiting for new Keira Knightley movies, so yes, anyway). IT'S SO SO FANTASTIC, I really think it's impossible to dislike, so I think you can have complete confidence that it will mean a lot to you and meet/exceed your expectations! Enjoy it in a few weeks!

OH MY GOD I SAW THIS YESTERDAY AND LOVED IT SO MUCH. When he's pacing out in the rain because of the fake valentine? And how she keeps butterflies in her room? PURE. LOVE.

Seriously. I've been talking like I'm from the 1800s ever since. I tend to do that. Where did you get the caps from the trailer? I've been dying to make icons.

AAAH YOU SINGLED OUT TWO OF MY FAVORITE PARTS, AWESOMEEE!!! Him pacing out in the rain was SO, SO GOOD, I DONT EVEN KNOW, like, why was that so incredible, and then it got even MORE amazing when she was marching out there, and then they were pacing in the mud TOGETHER, and then she was saying "I think he meant it as a joke," and the whole marching across the field and everything after it and OH GOD, I JUST, SO MUCH TO RAMBLE ABOUT. And the butterflies in the room made me feel emotional and quixotic in the purest of ways - god that was wonderful.

I got the caps here!

So i saw this yesterday and had to hunt down the this post, haha lamecakes of me. It was so darling! My friend didn't like that it was "slow" (her words, not mine) but i LOVE when movies do that, especially period pieces because it helps me get in the groove of historical life and the stillness of everything. I WAS BORN IN THE WRONG TIME PERIOD. ahem. anyway. THIS MOVIE WAS SO PERFECT. and Abbie Cornish was delightful! and BEN WHISHAW! BEN. WHISHAW. fuck me, he was astounding.

anyway, i just wanted to say that i loved it and love you and love everything.
